I DEFINITELY SMELL SOMETHING

Quicksand

I can't seem to get anything accomplished lately. My life appears to be a series of abrupt starts derived from good intentions that fizzle out more quickly than a cheap sparkler on the 4th of July. I'm even terrified to create a "to do" list because I'm just not strong enough to deal with that kind of disappointment right now.

I'm completely unmotivated and worn out but there are things that MUST be done. Things with deadlines attached to them. Things that, if left unfinished, will have serious repercussions.

Yet, here I remain. I sit and I think. I plan and I plot. I try to generate some energy, determination, something, ANYthing that will pull me up off my ass. I'm so slow molasses could lap me in a race. Congress would laugh at my work ethic. But I remain here in my quicksand without the slightest desire to pull myself out.

In the event you are unable to comprehend my current state of lethargy, here's a little song.  Want to hear it?  Here it goes:

Lazy Bones

  1. These things always go in waves. Just try your best to get the important things done and just take this as a sign from your body and mind that you need some down time. It will wear off soon.

  2. I Totally understand! I've been feeling the Exact same way! I like the task and break system to get me through these times. Pick one task and then reward yourself with as long of a break as you feel is required when you're done. That, and coffee is a great combo! I believe in you! Come on girl you can do it! Put a little power to it!

  3. @ Bella...I'll keep working at it. Maybe I need to get out of town for a night or two.

@ MMW...I'm going to give your task and break system a try but only because you believe in me and I wouldn't want to let you down.

  4. Ah, I hear you. I seem to realize that's what I keep doing last year since I resigned. Start planning and doing something and end up not finishing it. Lately, I am trying the Pomdoro system. Google it and see if it works for you :)

  7. @ Sherilin...ahhhh, it feels good to know that someone out there would understand the reasons behind my messy home. Even though I do have able-bodied members in my household, it still seems that when I'm on hold, so are they.

  8. Don't write a 'to do' list because it'll make you feel like you've got to climb Everest. As MMW suggested, pick one task to complete before moving onto the next one. Don't try and juggle while you're feeling like this, because it'll make you feel worse.

If you can, take time out to recharge - it sounds like you need it.

  9. I know just how you feel, I have been there lately. I just can't seem to get anything started and they are piling on top of each other. Meanwhile, I don't feel like I'm spending time wisely and the stress was just getting to me. Anyway, I hope you can somehow take one piece off of the pile at a time, and see where that takes. I was happy to get one big thing finally wrapped up today, only 99 more to go!

  10. I am never unmotivated. But I just fell asleep watching cartoons at 730 this evening.

Seems my 'always motivated' is kicking my butt.

I'm trying a nap. As for you, maybe a B12 shot?

This too will pass, and there will always be another deadline. Take care of you first. :)

  11. @ Bub...I'm definitely going to try to take it one task at a time. I really do need to recharge.

@ Shopgirl...I will chip away until it's done. I just need to get over this hump AND my current slump.

@ Julianna...I've been recovering from illness and I'm sure that's a factor but I have never been the energizer bunny that you are. You leave me breathless with all you manage to accomplish.

  12. Nari, you've just been ill, the world is hiccuping and sometimes you just need to take it easy.
For what it's worth, pick the absolute priority, messes get cleaned up eventually.

  13. I hear you. I was so off my game recently it was literally taking all the willpower I had to even do things I enjoy doing. You'll pull through it. Just remember, one foot in front the other.

  14. @ AC...I'm working on it. Thanks for the advice but I hope the world takes a clear breath soon.

@ Vinny...I hope you're back on track. I look forward to your posts and comments. Like now, you just reminded me of one of my favorite childhood sings "...put on foot in front of the other..." (Sorry about the singing)

  15. Do one thing. It doesn't even have to be the biggest or most urgent one. Just do one.

And I do it, too. All the things that need doing just... sit. I often don't pay the bills until they're due, even though the money is sitting in my checking account.

    I just get... weary.

    Hang in there.
